Review, the Tragicomedies of TGS 2008

Now when the curtain of Tokyo Game Show 2008 falls, what takes the deepest impression on you? I'm neither Sony adherent nor Microsoft defender. I just want to share my feeling about TGS 2008 as a neutralist.
1. Lack of megahits
It's really little poor compare with last year, nearly all Japanese game developers slow down their paces on creating new games. As a result we can only see Resident Evil 5, a great game of the real meaning on Konami booth...

You may ask why don't mention those triplet RPGs form Square-Enix. From my point of view, Square-Enix overestimates the market digest ability. It's too frequent to announce a new game every two months for one company, and in fact they're no more than traditional ones with bells and whistles at first view.
For Monster Hunter 3, I don't know whether it's popular in Euro or AU or North America. What brings to me from the TGS crowd is Capcom leads a fashion only in Japan but it's not a hot number worldwide.
2. Handheld becomes leading factor
List all 20 new games released by Sony and pick up those on PSP. What makes me surprised that the majority of them are just cookies, with little investment to develop. The same thing happens on other game companies like Koei, Level5 and so on. Regarding the number of NDS and PSP games, it seems that here comes a period of lesser contribution. So does world game circumstance meets an obstacle which forces developers to focus on business at low cost or do the taste of players become too picky?
However all developers are continuing their sequel of traditional games, not exclusive but become multiplatform. Street Fighters IV, Winning Eleven 2009, FIFA09, Gundam Musou 2, Prince of Persia and so on, with a common brand "MUL". This really makes me feel that Japanese game developers are weary of creating new mega hit on console, they set the schedule cautiously and jump into all platforms they can involved in with mass of classic series due to the extravagent development expenses and exorbitant technical threshold.
To put yourself in their place, how will make a balance between game innovation and financial limit?
3. We want more showgirls, beauty and charm!
Still remind those charming gals appeared on TGS 2007 when scared by dinosaurian baby faces? Take out my old collection and say "thanks, all of you've done your best and goodbye" to most of showgirls on TGS 2008. Just as well it's not very important part of TGS for me; after all we are staring at the game on their hands but not themselves.

Run DSTT system under R4 Environment

Do you still bother the compatibility on the latest released DS game of R4? Don’t you ever image to use DSTT kernel with R4 flashcard? One famous game enthusiastic fan Yasu shows us how to overcome this problem with his tool. Let's make our R4 revive!
The main purpose of this tool YS Menu is to make an unofficial customer loader which supports majority of flashcards (The latest version can be used in DSTT and AceKard2). For more information please read the YS Menu manual.

Let’s take DSTT as example.
First, go on his website and download YS Menu.zip and extract.
Run ttextract.exe with DSTT Kernel flies and three files will be created: ttpatch.dat, ttdldi.dat and r4patch.dat
Then rename YSmenu.nds to default.nds, copy r4patch.dat, default.nds, YSMenu.ini and TTMenu folder to TF card directly to replace the official ones. The YS Menu will run automatically when turn on DS.
If you don’t want to boot DS with YSMenu, just put default.nds, r4patch.dat, default.sav and YSMenu.ini to another folder.

It's little bit surprise that here comes the second generation of R4, one of the most popular NDS flashcard. From R4 Team official site we got its name: R4 SDHC. According to the data we get, let’s check it out what R4 SDHC it bring us.

Section I -- What is SDHC?
The table shows the development of SD memory card criterion. SD Card Association established new SD Memory Card Specifications 2.0 on May, 2006 since the urgent demand of video technology and real time R/W speed, which SDHC belongs to.
The revolution upgrades the R/W speed as well as supports the larger capacity. It’s a big contribution of R4 SDHC to support huge-sized DS game and multi-function software in the future.

The inner side still sets the same style as R4 does, one card box and a USB2.0 card reader. Add SDHC logo at the front of the card.
The card is re-designed without spring slot so players don’t afraid that their card may get stuck. One more to mention, R4 SDHC has no shell to protect its gold fingers. And it can be inserted and pushed out of the DS with ease since it is thinner than other flashcards.
It’s a little pity there is no change for the R4 SDHC interface except auto-changing skin by month. Also all cheat codes on R4 are compatible.

Section IV -- The Kernel
R4 SDHC kernel is incompatible with R4’s (It’s important since it distinguishes the real R4 and other forms of R4 flashcard), the latest version is 1.21, you can download it from the official site (http://www.r4sdhc.com/) and copy it to your card to replace the original one.

Section V -- Games & software
Report from some Chinese DS BBS shows that R4 SDHC can run most DS games and majority of software without accident. It also shows perfect representation to Emulators on DS.

As you know, this device(CR-3100) was introduced at the Computex 2008 held in Taiwan, alongside another product that can provide up to 16GB of storage called the CR-5400.June, 2008. It promises to provide up to 32GB of memory for your Sony PSP.

The black-colored keyboard matches the SIXAXIS, and is clipped over the front to remain securely in place. Another feature of this keyboard is a touchpad mode that makes mouse input possible. Sony officially unveiled the PSP 3000 Wednesday at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany, confirming rumors that had popped up online in recent weeks. But before you get excited (or--if you just bought a PSP--exasperated), note that this appears to be an even more subtle upgrade than the slimmed-down PSP 2000 that debuted in September 2007. The main changes, according to Sony:

The PSP 3000 is expected to hit stores worldwide (Japan, Asia, North America, and Europe) in October, with some markets getting up to three colors: black, pearl white, and silver. Pricing and bundles weren't disclosed, but we're guessing Sony will stick with the tried and true $169 barebones/$199 bundle price points that have helped propel the handheld's strong sales.

Personally, if the antireflective screen works as advertised, I might actually be tempted to upgrade--but reflective screens are a major pet peeve of mine. Safety Information for Playing Wii

There is a lot of press running around about how unsafe the Wii is. Black eyes, broken televisions, windows, light fixtures and a whole list of other things have been damaged by overzealous Wii gaming. The good news is that a little forethought and preparation can go a long way toward preventing Wii-related damage and injury.

1. Clear your area. Before you start playing, make sure your play zone is clear of ANY obstacles: people, hanging light fixtures, furniture, pets and anything else that might get in the way. Create at least a five-foot circle around you to ensure that nothing gets damaged.

2. Watch the commercial for a good example of how much movement is needed. It doesn't take very much for the Wii controller to register movement. Use light, easy movements and the players will do what you want them to do. If you need to see what this looks like, watch a Nintendo Wii commercial. All of them show proper Wii gameplay.

3. Get a new strap if you got a Wii before early December 2006. It has been largely publicized that the wrist strap that came with early-model Wii consoles is too small to hold the controller and can break. If you purchased a Wii before December 2006, fill out Nintendo's online Wrist Strap Replacement Request Form (see Resources below) for a free replacement strap. If you bought a Wii after early December 2006, your Wii should already come equipped with the new strap.

4. Use the wrist. It's all in the wrist, not in the shoulders. Use light, slow movements. This cannot be overemphasized! Fast, violent movements are not only unnecessary, they are dangerous.

5. Take it easy! Relax, and have fun. If you find yourself getting frustrated or angry, simply put the game on pause or turn it off, walk away and come back later when you've cooled down.

6. Take a break! The Wii itself will even say “Why don’t you take a break?” and show you a picture of an open window and the outdoors every now and again. It's good advice: Take a break! Go outside, run around! Yes, the Wii is a physically active video game, but take your eyes off the television for a while and move around in the great outdoors. It’ll do you good.

7. Try and remain aware of your surroundings. Take a quick second when the game is loading and look around you for anything or anyone that might have moved into your play circle without you noticing. It is easy to get sucked into the games and become oblivious of the world around you, but doing so can blind you to something or someone about to stumble into the path of your hand and the Wii controller.

1.Know that if you order this product by mail, it is likely that you did not receive an installation CD, which is very useful. This guide is mainly for those who do not have this CD.
2.Gather all of the components. There should be a card reader with a USB key on the end. Put the Micro SD card in the reader. Be careful not to break it! Turn on your computer, then stick the card reader containing the card into the USB port.
3.Notice the menu that appears. Scroll down to find the button that reads "Open to View Files." The details of the Micro SD card will be displayed. Use the "Up One Level" button in the window. This should take you to "My Computer."
4.Discover that there is something called an e:// drive that is not normally there. Rename this "M3 REAL" and go back into it. Create a folder called NDS (save this for later).
5.Search Google for "M3 real system files", and find a website that gives system files 3.0 or above. (Note: On the actual M3 website the system files are wrong!)
6.Download the system files and save them to the M3 Real card, but be sure not to save them in the NDS folder. Then, use an extraction program to unzip the files.
If you can't do that, don't worry! Go into the zipped folder and copy all of the files and folders. Create a standard folder called "system2" and put them in there. Then, go back, delete the zipped folder, and rename the folder from "system2" to "System". Be sure to get this right, or it will not work!
7.Notice that the box it says "Built in PDA", but you will find it is not. Go back to the web and find M3 Real PDA files and save them to the M3 Real card. Then unzip or copy and paste the files into a standard folder. The M3 Real cannot read zipped folders.
8.Return to the NDS folder and create sub-folders (such as MUSIC, PICTURES, etc.). Place your files (e.g., MP3s) into the corresponding folder.
9.Go back and try again if it didn't work.

The R4 DS is revolutionizing the gaming world, for it enables you to load a lot of games to your DS. You will need a micro SD card which is not included. But everything else you need to get gaming is already at your fingertips.

1. Gather your supplies. If your computer does not have a slot for the micro SD card, use the USB adapter that comes with the R4.

2. Slip the micro SD card into the USB adapter that comes with the R4 and then insert the USB adapter into a USB port in your computer. Go to "My Computer" and click on "Removable Disc" for the drive that corresponds with the USB adapter. This will vary with each computer.

As with all of the new generation of Nintendo DS Flash Cartridges, it is very simple to use.
To play your downloaded backup games, there are only a few steps.
1. Insert your Micro sd card (not supplied unless stated) into the usb card reader (supplied).
2. Insert the usb reader into the usb port on your PC. (not supplied!)
3. Download the DSTT Menu software here.
4. Unzip the file and place the file TTMENU.DAT and the directory TTMENU onto the root of the micro sd card.
5. Unzip any games you wish to play and put them onto the root of the micro sd as well.
6. Take the micro sd from the reader and insert it into the flash cartridge (supplied).
7. Insert the flash cartridge into your DS.
8. Turn it on. Pick a game from the DSTT menu. You can use the touch screen or just press A to play.

While Sony did not unveil any new hardware at the company's E3 press conference, new photos are beginning to show up around the Net that lead us to believe they're hard at work on an updated version of the PSP.

Kotaku reports that forums members from PSPChina BBS have captured the rumored PSP-3000, identified by its PlayStation logo button that would replace the "home" button currently on the original and slim PSP models. The "new" PSP also features an onboard microphone located to the right of the volume controls.

While these photos certainly look convincing, we're still going to have to label them as rumors for now. We'll update you if Sony ever confirms their validity.
